Bitworks IT

How Bitworks IT Got Here

Bitworks IT is based in Taylors Falls, Minnesota, and works with small and mid-sized organizations across Minnesota, the Minneapolis/St. Paul area, east-central Minnesota, and northwest Wisconsin. The company is led by Matt Sonnentag, Founder and CEO / vCIO, whose background includes decades of IT leadership and infrastructure work before building Bitworks into a practical, local IT partner for growing businesses.

Bitworks IT grew out of a simple frustration: too many businesses were stuck dealing with technology only after it broke. Owners, office managers, and internal staff were losing time to slow computers, vendor finger-pointing, unclear security questions, and backup systems nobody had tested in a while. That is a lousy way to run a business, especially when the crew needs to get jobs out the door.

So Bitworks IT was built around ownership. The team documents environments, monitors systems, supports users, manages security basics, helps with compliance and cyber insurance questions, and gives leadership a clearer view of what is working, what is aging out, and what needs attention. The goal is not to make IT fancy. The goal is to make it controlled, understandable, and useful to the business.

Today, the Bitworks IT team includes experienced technical and operations staff such as James “JR” Weiden, Sam Magsig, Ruth Haanan, Jackson Brott, and Garrett Bussey. Together, they support businesses that have outgrown break-fix IT and need a local team that can handle support, security, backups, infrastructure, documentation, governance, and planning without turning everything into a corporate circus.

How We Work with Clients

Bitworks IT is practical, plain-English, and business-first. The work is technical, but the way we talk about it does not have to be.

Own the Problem

Clients should not have to chase three vendors just to find out why email, Wi-Fi, or a line-of-business system is down. Bitworks works to understand the environment, document the moving parts, and help drive issues toward a real resolution.

Keep It Understandable

Technology decisions should connect to operations, budget, risk, and growth. We explain what matters, what can wait, and what needs attention now, without burying business owners in jargon.

Build Control Before Chaos Hits

Good IT is not just fixing tickets. It includes monitoring, patching, backups, security reviews, documentation, asset tracking, and planning so the business has more control before something breaks.

Match the Plan to the Business

Not every organization needs the same level of support. Bitworks offers managed, co-managed, project-based, and specialized support options so clients can choose a model that fits their size, risk, locations, and budget.
